Middle Fell Summit

Recommended by 33 hikers out of 35

Middle Fell is one of three Wainwrights that form an obvious horseshoe above the northwestern shore of Wast Water, England’s deepest and, arguably, most dramatic lake. All adventures to Middle Fell are without technical difficulty and enjoy wonderful views. The summit reveals the awesome sight of the Wasdale Screes, seen head-on directly across Wast Water. Another highlight is the sight of Yewbarrow’s overturned hull form to the northeast.

Middle Fell is a 1,909-foot (582 m) Wainwright in the Western Lake District National Park. It can most easily be approached from Nether Wasdale to the south. A great circular walk option is to link Middle Fell with nearby Wainwrights - Seatallan and Buckbarrow. I absolutely adore the view to the Scafell range from the summit on a clear day.

Middle Fell is an awesome viewpoint. Looking East you have Yewbarrow, Great Gable and the Scafell group in all its glory. SE you then have the glory of Wast Water and the long ridge of Illgill Head and Whin Rigg. As Ad Nic said it is also best done in conjunction with Buckbarrow and Seatallan. There is parking at the bottom of Middle Fell.
