Today's town hall was once a mansion and stands on the foundation walls of an early German moated castle. They can be used to date the origin of the manor, which was probably built around 1200. Together with the manor house, it forms the settlement core of the towns of Ober- and Niederkreischa. For more than 200 years - from 1456 to 1692 - the widespread Saxon noble family von Carlowitz sat here.
