This special nature reserve is located within the Diemelsee nature park at the western tip of the lake and at the mouth of the Itter. Extremely important for the bird world, it has been a designated nature reserve since 1965.
The 18.69 hectare nature reserve is an important retreat and resting place for many rare and endangered bird species.
Due to the alternation of floods and dry traps, the conditions in the Diemelsee nature reserve are similar to those in a natural river bed. Water birds in particular find an ideal breeding and habitat here.
There are also many reed plants, willow bushes and several small forest areas in the area.
