A short stop at the nature reserve at the Itter inlet is worthwhile. Sit on a bench for a moment and listen into the forest. Various animal and plant species can be discovered in the 18.7 hectare nature reserve. Plants that are adapted to very special living conditions grow here. On the outskirts you will find Germany's smallest flowering plant, the mudling, the swamp ruhrkraut and inland three-parted two-toothed, red goosefoot and multi-seeded plantain. Nine dragonfly and 81 butterfly species have been identified in the sanctuary. The 23 butterflies include the Imperial Mantle, the Meadowsweet Fritillary and the Giant Fritillary Butterfly. The beaver has also found its home in the quiet nature reserve, and it likes to show itself from time to time.
