The "mausoleum" in Boitzenburg Castle Park, which was erected in a semicircle and opens towards the church on the opposite slope of the river valley, is now called the "hereditary grave". It was built from 1887 to 1889 under the direction of the architect Carl Doflein as a burial place for the Counts of Arnim-Boitzenburg and is one of the last buildings to be harmoniously integrated into the existing park structure. Two life-size stone lions guard the hereditary burial and take up important visual relationships. While the lion lying on a pedestal to the left of the flight of steps has his massive head directed towards the church, the one on the right is looking in the direction of the Temple of Apollo and the palace.
