            Guided tour of the Königshöhe
            October 2018
In glorious weather, we let Antonia Dinnebier guide us over the beautiful Königshöhe in Wuppertal, the summer residence of the well-known Wuppertal banker von der Heydt family. We not only learned the history of the richly branched family and their patronage of the artists whose pictures hang in the Wuppertal Museum, but also that today's forest was reforested (Selma-Schonung, an engagement or wedding present from Eduard von der Heydt to his wife Selma) owes to this family. Because originally the Königshöhe was an agricultural area without trees, with only one farm and one restaurant.

Many memorial stones that mark the paths and viewpoints along the visual axes can still be found today, unfortunately often not in their original place but somewhere in the forest, partly sunken in layers of leaves and forest floor. Names of artists and family members were carved in stone and preserved as a memento for posterity.
