The way up through the Lauenburg castle tower to the top is not that easy. The stairs, steps and ladders are very narrow - oncoming traffic sometimes has to wait. The path leads past dungeons and the clockwork. When the arduous path is finally over, you will be rewarded with a magnificent view at the top.

The castle tower is a highlight in the Upper Town and is worth the climb from the Elbe. With the princely gardens not to be missed.

The oldest part of the castle that can still be visited today is the mighty defensive tower opposite the current office building. It is really impressive and worth seeing.
A clear recommendation.
The tower was completed in 1477 after twenty years of construction.
Equipped with two-meter-thick walls, various loopholes and a powder chamber, the surrounding area could be controlled from here.
After the castle was destroyed in the 17th century, the top floor had to be demolished and replaced by the baroque roof turret that can still be seen today. Nevertheless, you can still see far into Lower Saxony from the top of the castle tower. Prison cells have been set up on the first floor of the castle tower, which still have their original furnishings. The former powder chamber in the basement now houses a lapidarium (collection of stone works).
The defensive tower is open to interested visitors and can be visited free of charge.Source and further information: herzogtum-lauenburg.de/a-schloss-und-schlossturm
