The part with the recreated layout of the old synagogue as a water feature is beautiful and important. The rest of the square looks empty. But that somehow fits too. Of course, a complete reconstruction, including new Jewish life in Freiburg, would be even more beautiful. But some things cannot be repaired. Not to mention those who were murdered. The square has benefited from traffic calming. A few years ago, a 4-lane road still ran here in front of the university library and the city theater.

Right next to the new university library is the Synagogenplatz, with the large Brunner, which reproduces the shape of the old synagogue, which was completely destroyed in the Reichsprognomnacht. Incidentally, the city theater next door is reflected in the library facade.
