The Lembrecht Fountain is a domed pavilion surrounded by four semicircular basins. The dome is crowned by a pine cone, a symbol of the unity of the Principality of Liège. The fountain is a tribute to the local gunsmith Dieudonn Lambrecht (1882 - 1916), who was executed by the Germans in the fortress of La Chartreuse in April 1916 for setting up an intelligence network in the Ardennes. The existing bronze plaques honor Dieudonn Lambrecht and others for his actions. A commemorative plaque bears the names of fifty-six other people who were "shot for the fatherland."

The Maasland-style fountain was built with materials from the old Saint Lambert's Cathedral. The square aedicule is surrounded by four semicircular basins and topped by a dome. The crowning glory of this is the usual pine cone.

The basic element of the materials used for its construction is sandstone. The edges of the basins are in blue stone. The dome and pine cone, like the small columns that accentuate the corners of the aedicule, are made of limestone. The occuli, which animate the four sides of the monument, are closed off by bronze plaques.

The fountain was erected in memory of Dieudonné Lambrecht, shot by the Germans in 1916. The inscription with his achievements and his military awards is engraved on the bronze plaques of the occuli.

        Historical

This monument, in pure Mosan style, whose stones come from the foundations of the old Saint-Lambert cathedral, was erected thanks to a public donation and inaugurated on July 14, 1930 to perpetuate the memory of Dieudonné LAMBRECHT, shot by the Germans in 1916 at the age of 34. Nicknamed “Brave among the brave”, Dieudonné LAMBRECHT decided in 1914 to serve the Fatherland by organizing a spy network on railway traffic in the Ardennes.
