The walk takes you past the Bastion of the Dead, which used to be a defensive work and has been used as a cemetery since the 17th century. Like a number of houses in the village, it is listed as a monument. Opposite is the Kruydenbastion, also a defense work, where a powder house once stood. Now it is in use as an orchard with old fruit varieties.
