Absolutely worth a visit, the stucco work alone is worth seeing, and of course the crib looks sensational. And then the view of the interior of the church from above is perfect

As one of the most important Catholic and Orthodox Marian pilgrimage sites in the region, the pilgrimage to Schönenberg has a long tradition. The pilgrimage church, built between 1682 and 1687 according to plans by the Vorarlberg architect Michael Thumb, burned down completely in 1709 after a lightning strike and was rebuilt under the direction of Maximilian von Welsch. It was consecrated again in 1729. To the east of the church are stone figures of Saint John Nepomuk (1732) and the Mother of God (1733), both by Melchior Paulus.

The pilgrimage church in Schönenberg stands out imposingly and can be seen from afar from downtown Ellwang. I started a hike there because it seems to be the start and finish point of many different routes.
