The first train rolled into Chur in 1858. To be more precise: on the outskirts of Chur, because at that time the area between the old town and the Rhine was still largely undeveloped. But Chur was an important transport hub north of the Alpine passes long before the railway era. The glass roof, which has stretched like an archway over the railway tracks and post bus deck since 1994, is an architectural indication of this importance. The reception building on the station square is much older: it dates from 1878 and is attached to the station buffet from the early 20th century. The station was expanded/modernized from 2001 to 2008 and was awarded the Brunel Award in 2011 for this.

From Chur, discover the mountains of Graubünden and the UNESCO World Heritage routes of the Rhaetian Railway with the Bernina and Glacier Express. Whether it's the surrounding fashionable spa towns such as Davos-Klosters and St. Moritz, or sports and leisure destinations such as Arosa and Lenzerheide, the neighbours can all be reached by train and post bus directly from the city on the Rhine. With the local mountain Brambrüesch, Chur is also the only city in Switzerland to have its own summer and winter sports area, which can be reached directly from the centre by cable car.
