The beautiful fountain is in the center of the village. Every real Fockbeker has been here and everyone knows the legend of the Aalversuper.Who shouldn't know it yet, here it is:Fockbeks saga is about eel soup (Low German for eel drowning or eel drowning). According to the story, the villagers wanted to breed herring in Fockbeker See, for which they poured salted herring into the lake that they had bought at the Rendsburg market.
When they drained the lake water the following year to reap the fruits of their efforts, they did not find a single herring, only an eel lolling in the mud. The Fockbeker concluded that this eel had eaten all the herrings. In the course of the deliberations about the cruelest possible punishment for the "culprit", a villager who almost drowned once, pleaded for drowning the eel (Low German: to pounce).
No sooner said than done: as soon as the lake was filled again, the eel was thrown into the water at the deepest point. When he writhed in the water, the Fockbeker commented: "Look at how he torments himself!" and "He's drowning! He's drowning!"; in Low German: "He versupt! He versupt!", hence "De Aalversuper".
To remember where they drowned the eel, they made a notch on the appropriate side of the boat.
This mockery story was allegedly invented by the residents of the neighboring town of Rendsburg and was intended to reflect the simplicity of the residents of the neighboring western village. Ultimately, disputes over fishing rights were the cause.fockbek.de/gemeinden/fockbek/portrait/die-geschichte-fockbeks
