The Fockbek Moor, northwest of Rendsburg, is the remnant of a former extensive heath and moor landscape. The now rewetted and regenerating moor has flora typical of raised moors: round-leaved sundew, rosemary heath, white beak sedge, cranberry, and cotton grass.

The Fockbek Moor is a characteristic, relatively young raised bog,
which has spread over a shallow depression over the past 2,500 years. The raised bog peat largely covers the water-retaining mineral subsoil.Typical of such "root-free" raised bogs are the numerous sand hills that are not, or no longer, covered by peat, on which sandy or wet heathland has spread, or where typical deciduous forests have grown. Thanks to intensive efforts, especially by volunteer conservationists, numerous plant and animal communities typical of raised bogs have been preserved or even re-established, particularly in the many hand-cut peat pits. The bog and its immediate surroundings have therefore been protected since 2002 and are part of the Europe-wide NATURA 2000 network of protected areas.umweltdaten.landsh.de/nuis/upool/gesamt/bis_faltblaetter/5817_fockbeker_moor.pdf
