The church in its current form was built between 1768 and 1773, as can be seen from the keystone of the entrance portal. In April 1899, the tower burned down as a result of a lightning strike, and the church building was hardly damaged. The new tower was inaugurated on the 2nd Advent of the same year. The former mechanical clockwork of the church is now part of the clock in the Dresden Frauenkirche.
