If you want to gain altitude quickly, then go in Kaub in the Blücherstraße left high through the houses (Rheinsteig is signposted) and then go up the tower over. Very nice view of the Middle Rhine.

The Leiterberger Tower was built around 1320 as part of the city fortifications, which were expanded from 1324 to protect the Dörscheider gate and the Weiseler gate. Since about 1875 it has been popularly known as the Philippinenburg.

The tower, which has been inhabited since the Middle Ages, probably had a half-timbered upper floor and a high hipped roof. Since 1807 it has been privately owned after an auction.
