The Speyer Gate is now the city's landmark and also served as a template for the city's official logo. was built in 1772/73 according to the plans of the Electoral Palatinate chief building director Nicolas de Pigage. It was created immediately before the Karlstor in Heidelberg, which goes back to the same architect and is based in many points on the Frankenthal predecessor. The two pairs of columns on the south side still show the damage from the wars of the French Revolution.
The Worms and Speyer city gates are atmospherically illuminated in changing colors in the evening and at night.
