The square has existed since the city was founded in the 12th century and hides many beautiful details. Several half-timbered houses have almost their original appearance today.

The torvet is one of the oldest parts of Haderslev. Today the restaurants have set up cozy outdoor areas here so that you can take a break and enjoy the atmosphere. The Torvet in Haderslev was built as a market and trading place and was the center of the city for many years. Three large annual markets and weekly market days took place here, on which the farmers of the region could sell their goods to the townspeople. The Torvet in Haderslev is the best preserved medieval square in Denmark. Over the centuries, many of the city's richest and most influential citizens lived in the houses on the square. Most were merchants and many of them were members of the city council and the magistrate or even mayors. For 700 years the Torvet was the absolute center of the city, but over the course of this century the city center was moved further north. The main reason for this was the construction of the Gravene market square in 1880, which means that the Torvet is now almost on the southern edge of the city center.Even if the torvet is no longer the city center, it is still full of life and activity. The square is now surrounded by shops and restaurants, where you can also serve outdoors. So you can enjoy chilled drinks and a delicious meal in historical surroundings.visithaderslev.de/haderslev/planen-sie-ihre-reise/torvet-ein-marktplatz-haderslev-gdk1117474
