In 1764, Landgrave Ludwig VIII (1691-1768) gave the complex to his second-born favorite son, Prince Georg Wilhelm (1722-1782). It was created from two originally independent gardens: the garden of Landgrave Ernst Ludwig von Hessen-Darmstadt (1667-1739) with a small palace and the directly adjacent garden of Lieutenant General Rudolf von Pretlack (1668-1737) with a dainty garden acquired by Ludwig , brightly painted garden shed.
