Information sign: From open-cast mine to biotope – Brickworks in Prohlis and Nickern. "Dresden Archaeo Trail – Cultural-Historical Circular Hiking Trail along the Geberbach."

    Information:

The clay layers, up to eight meters thick, at the foot of the slope near Prohlis and Nickern provided an ideal raw material for brick production. Between 1873 and 1890, several brickworks were built amidst fields and orchards. Flooding brought an end to intensive gravel extraction in 1953. Since 2006, the "Old Brickworks" has been surrounded by a biotope.

Since May 2020, the circular hiking trail has offered an informative and relaxing walk of approximately twelve kilometers through a diverse urban landscape.

The "Archaeo-Path Dresden" presents topics on archeology and history at eleven sites. The starting and finishing point of the approx. 11 km long circular hiking trail is the Palitzsch Museum in Dresden-Prohlis.
