"The Herrenholz is a wonderful forest area for hiking. Before you reach this former hunting ground of the noble von Horstmar, the path leads over the Schlossstrasse to Sendenhof, through the castle gate, past the grass-overgrown stone debris walls of the castle, which was razed in 1635, today only through elevations recognizable. An avenue of lime trees leads straight to Herrenholz. This is how it looked at the turn of the century with remains of stone and deep trenches on the square where the Horstmar castle once stood. "Source: horstmar.de

The Horstmarer Herrenholz on the Schöppinger Berg, the northernmost foothills of the Baumberge in the Kernmünsterland, belongs to the “lime-beech forests” in which the common beech (Fagus sylvatica) is the dominant tree.
