A testament to the Baroque era that is well worth seeing is the St. Georg Church in Gartow. After a fire completely destroyed the previous church, the current baroque church was built in 1724.
The traces of this first building, also called St. George's Church, can be traced back to the early 14th century.
Gartower Kirche has always been a patron church. The patronage of the church was initially in the hands of the von Bülow family. In 1694, however, the family of the Counts von Bernstorff took over the patronage of the church, which they still do today.
The single-nave baroque building of today's church has a small tower at the southern end. However, the interior of the church is particularly remarkable. In contrast to so many other churches of this time, the interior of Gartow's St. George's Church was completely preserved. The ornamented baptismal font, a pulpit altar and grisaille paintings all contribute to the baroque charm of the church, as does the organ from the time it was built.
The magnificent baroque organ comes from the Lüneburg master organ builder Johann Matthias Hagelstein and was probably built around 1740. It is considered to be the master's only completed organ work and is characterized by its individual timbres. These can be heard particularly well in July and August, when, as part of the Gartow Organ Summer, a different artist demonstrates his skills on the instrument every Wednesday evening in the ambience of the baroque church.

The St. Georg Church was built in 1724 in the Baroque style after the previous Gothic building burned down. The interior captivates with its baroque-Protestant harmony. The elevated choir in the east with a pulpit altar and surrounding galleries is in white and gold.

Of importance is the organ in the church, built in 1740 by Johann Matthias Hagelstein. Hagelstein built his only instrument in Gartow. The organ has been preserved in its original condition and has a very peculiar sound, which was restored largely to a verifiable original condition on the occasion of the restoration by the Hillebrand company in 1991.

Nice brick church, unfortunately I have only seen it from the outside so far, as I am often out and about in Gartow, I will certainly make up for the inside inspection again.
