Top cycling routes to Elbholz Floodplain Landscape

Tips

  • Beautiful meadow landscape on the banks of the Elbe. The area can be reached via the Elberadweg, which leads here from Pevestorf to Schnackenburg (in Pevestorf and Schnackenburg there are ferries across the Elbe during the day, with which you can cross the river cheaply). The area is characterized by forest, meadows and many brackish areas. There are many large, old oak trees in the area, e.g. the (now dead) royal oak Elbholz (named after a visit by King George V in 1865).

This wonderful meadow landscape is one of my favorite areas in Wendland: Lots of nature, beautiful scenery, tranquility, good chances of seeing wild animals and rare birds and a beautiful cycle path that runs mostly off-road along the Elbe dike.

I also use the area often and enjoy taking pictures of the starry sky. Since light pollution is very low here, great astrophotographs can be taken in the clear, moonless sky.
