The Brussels-Scheldt sea canal is one of the oldest canals in our country and was originally intended to connect the city of Brussels with Antwerp and the sea. The channel has been continuously adapted and expanded over time. In 1997, the sea lock in Wintam was put into use, which gave the canal a direct connection with the Scheldt and hence became the "sea canal Brussels-Scheldt.
