Until 1496 this was the town church of Bietigheim. Until a new church was built on the site of the former castle within the city fortifications. Since that time the building has served as a cemetery chapel and unfortunately cannot be visited from the inside.

The Peterskirche in Bietigheim (often used as a cemetery church) is one of the oldest churches in the city, with origins dating back to the 9th century. Presumably built by the Weißenburg monastery as a mission church, it formed the original spiritual center of the region, even before the construction of the current town church.
