    Hiking

The location of the castle away from the mediaeval traffic routes is explained by the border between the Principality of Bayreuth and the Diocese of Bamberg, on which it is located, along the Schorgast.
In 1406, the castle nobility was first mentioned with that of Rabenstein zu Wirsberg.
The Rabensteiner Schlösslein was a castle estate from Wirsberg that the ministerial family had been given as a fief by the burgraves of Nuremberg that year.
In 1489, Kunz von Rabenstein zu Wirsberg was enfeoffed with the castle, but it was already referred to as the castle stables, i.e. destroyed or uninhabitable.
