It was first mentioned in 1109 and is the earliest evidence of the 900-year history of the Upper Franconian village: the late Gothic parish church of St. James the Elder to Marktschorgast". Originally built as a fortified church with a protective wall around the entire churchyard, the church went through many wars, destruction and conversions. However, the late medieval defensive wall with the "snail tower" has been preserved to this day.

Located on the Way of St. James Hof-Hilpoltstein. A pilgrim stamp can also be obtained here.

The Roman Catholic Church of St. Jakobs d. Ä. in Marktschorgast is an old church. The partly Romanesque nave bears witness to its history as a fortified church. Interesting is the figure of James (in the middle and now also with a scallop shell), which dates from the 15th century. This figure is shown with a pilgrim's staff, a drinking gourd and the Bible in his hand. The shell was subsequently attached to the base.

For Jacob pilgrims there is a stamp for the pilgrim book in the anteroom. If you follow the Way of St. James, if you follow the path and turn right (follow the Way of St. James in the direction of Weißenstadt), you get a great view over the pond to the church.
