The classicist Belvedere station was inaugurated in 1839 and was located at the beginning of the "Iron Route", a legendary railway line from Cologne to the Belgian North Sea coast. It was the world's first international railway line. For the people of Cologne, the route from Thürmchenswall station to the terminus at Müngersdorf was a weekend excursion destination.
The station owes its name Belvedere to the fact that it offered a beautiful view of the landscape from the front. At the back of the station there was a winter garden where visitors and train passengers could enjoy a cup of coffee. It is still visible today that the station had a park-like garden for strolling.
The station is the oldest station in Germany that has been preserved in its original structure.
However, the station quickly became too small and was closed again in the middle of the 19th century.
