We followed this round tour at the beginning of winter 2020 on a recommendation and were pleasantly surprised. The "Kaiser Karls Bettstatt" is a highlight of many on this tour. In addition to that, there are also many beautiful scenic views and you can find peace and quiet or sporting incentives in the spacious area.
According to legend, Emperor Charlemagne is said to have lost his way on a hunting trip from his nearby residence in Aachen in the High Fens and was forced to spend the night on this large quartzite rock. The rock, near the town of Mützenich, directly on the German-Belgian border, is still generally called "Kaiser Karls Bettstatt". You can pause or have a picnic there. Nearby is this new little shelter and seating.
