We followed this circular tour at the beginning of winter 2020 on a recommendation and were pleasantly surprised. The "Kaiser Karls Bettstatt" is a highlight of many on this tour. In addition to that, there are also many beautiful scenic views and you can find peace or sporting incentives in the extensive area.
According to legend, Emperor Charlemagne got lost in the High Fens during a hunting trip from his nearby residence Aachen and was forced to spend the night on this large quartzite rock. The rock, near the village of Mützenich, located directly on the German-Belgian border, is still generally called "Kaiser Karl's bedstead". You can pause or have a picnic there. Nearby is this new little shelter and seating area.
