Kasteeldomein Putberg eclectic country house in Neo-Flemish Renaissance style on the edge of a medieval quarry. Leon De Coster, representative of the people, had it built in 1878. It was later bought by Viscount Théophile de Lantsheere, former Minister of Justice and Governor of the National Bank. German, British and Canadian soldiers once stayed in this castle. Strange trees. In 1672 new limestone layers were discovered in Asbeek.
Before excavating the stones, a thick layer of earth had to be first
taken away. This earth remained after the exploitation of the quarries
as a build-up. So not only wells were created during the reclamations,
but also mountains. The place was therefore given the name Putberg.
