On this stretch of coast, between Agios Pavlos and Agios Giannis, to Aradena, there are extensive pine forests (Pinus brutia), which, however, are being decimated more and more by forest fires and pests. In recent decades, the processionary caterpillar has been increasingly joined by Marchalina Hellenica (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marchalina_hellenica), an insect that sucks on the tree and excretes a nectar-like sap, but in the long run it puts a lot of strain on the trees and also leads to extinction. Mind you, this species was intentionally introduced by local beekeepers to increase honey production!
