In the off-season, Agia Roumeli is a sleepy village with a few taverns. You can only get there on foot or by boat.
In terms of hiking, you can easily walk 1,200 meters and ~ 19km to Sougia. It's easier to go over towards Loutro and the classic that everyone seems to do is the Samaria Gorge (surprise :-) ).
