The original fountain at the front of the Louise Mariekaai dated from 1716 and was popularly called "Pierlepijn. A larger one was built in 1825, modeled on a fountain on the Place de la Concorde in Paris. Later the fountain was renamed after the 2nd wife of Leopold I. Too bad there is no room on the fountain for his many mistresses.
