The square is dominated by the impressive town hall, a masterpiece of Brabantine late Gothic built between 1526 and 1536. Around the square you will find beautiful historic buildings, cozy cafés and restaurants, and a vibrant atmosphere that forms the heart of the city. The square is also a place where events and markets are regularly held, such as the weekly market and special festivities such as the Adriaen Brouwer Beer Festival. It is a meeting place for both locals and visitors and offers beautiful views of the surrounding architecture, including the St. Walburga Church.

The 88 meter high tower of the Sint-Walburga Church is characteristic of Oudenaarde. The remarkable thing about it: The monument consists of two different architectural styles. The early Gothic part of the choir, built from Tournai limestone, dates from the 12th century. The rest of the lower church is a beautiful example of Brabant Gothic from the 15th century. Be sure to check out the beautiful stained glass windows!
Does your heart beat faster when the Tour of Flanders starts? Then be sure to visit the center of the Tour of Flanders directly at the market. Don't expect boring exhibitions, but an interactive center that will make your inner cyclist sweat and pant on the pedals.
