One of the more than ninety sculptures, monuments and works of art that adorn the streets of the city. It stands over 3m high and was erected in the city in 1971 to commemorate the city's Roman past. Made of bronze, it represents a replica of the well-known work Augusto de Prima Porta.

The statue of Octavio Augusto is located in one of the most central areas of the Asturian city of Gijón, the Plaza del Campo Valdés, with the fantastic background of the Valdés Palace and the Chapel of Guadalupe, right next to the Museum of the Roman Baths.

It is a bronze sculpture representing Octavian Augustus, a copy of a statue that is located in the Vatican Museum and dates from 19 BC. Specifically, the work was made by the sculptor Francisco González Marías in 1995 and placed from its origin in the Plaza del Campo Valdés.

What better location for a statue of a Roman emperor, than next to the Museum of the Roman Baths, thus evoking in this way the Roman origin of this city.
