Phylloxera was first found in the Lößnitz (Radebeul) in 1885, but by then it had already attacked large parts of the vine population. The plant lice that live on the roots remove all nutrients from the grapevine and cause them to die. In the course of the phylloxera disaster, the area under vines in Ober- and Niederlößnitz fell from 150 hectares to 10 hectares between 1886 and 1910. The Reblauss sculpture is a reminder of the catastrophe.
