For approximately 100 years, the site between the Teltow Canal, Lankwitzer Straße, and Ringstraße was used for gas production. The buildings that remain today largely date from the first construction phase in 1900 and 1901 (architectural firm Schulz & Schlichting), as well as the second phase in the years immediately following (architect Paul Karchow). Among other things, the gasometer, which was originally built in Vienna in 1892 and moved to Mariendorf nine years later, is still present today.
