  • In 1920, clay was extracted from the Riegelstein mine. In 1996 the plant was shut down. the pit had tunnels totaling approx. 600 meters and at a depth of 60 meters. Today the historic building houses the mining museum with guided tours.

  • The Riegelstein mine in the former clay and sand mine area between Eisenberg and Hettenleidelheim was still in operation until 1996; Green clays were mined at a depth of approx. 50 m. After the pits were abandoned, a unique landscape protection area with rare animals and plants was created here.
