The former “Erdekaut” mining area lies between Eisenberg and Hettenleidelheim. For centuries, sticky sand and clay were systematically mined here. The raw materials were extracted both in opencast and underground mining and were used in regional iron smelting, for example in the Gienanth ironworks. In 2008, a sub-area of more than ten hectares was opened to the public as an adventure landscape.
