The monastery Höningen was founded in 1120 by Count Emich II of Leiningen and occupied with Augustinian canons. For many centuries, the abbey church of the monastery was hiding the remains of the Leiningen family of counts. The existence of the monastery was extinguished in January 1569 during the Reformation. Philipp von Leiningen appointed the first Lutheran pastor. Two months later, a devastating fire broke out in the monastery. All buildings including the church were destroyed. Philipp let the buildings partially rebuild and founded a "Latin School", the forerunner of today's "Leininger Gymnasium" in Grünstadt. In the "Thirty Years War" the monastery was destroyed again. Only a few remnants, such as the west gable of the abbey church, are reminiscent of the church and the monastery.

The Höningen monastery was founded in 1120 by Count Emich II von Leiningen and it was occupied by Augustinian canons. Parts of it are still preserved and the Landgasthof Klosterschänke has opened its restaurant there.

Only the remains of a monastery can still be seen.
But there are many beautiful corners to discover and good refreshment stops in Höningen
