The Old Town Hall on the Erkelenzer Markt is an example of the late 16th century brick Gothic style. The building, which has been restored today, was rebuilt by 1956 after severe war damage (1940/1945). Alongside the Lambertus Tower, it is the city's most striking landmark.

One of the most important historical buildings in the more than 1000-year history of Erkelenz is undoubtedly the old town hall on the market square, which, thanks to its ancient architecture, has long been regarded as the "gem of brick Gothic on the Lower Rhine". The 470-year-old building, which has undergone many alterations and renovations over the years, nestles close to the Lambertus Tower.
