Pit 7 is a former limestone quarry in the Haan district of Gruiten on the edge of the Osterholz forest area on the city limits of Wuppertal. Since 1997 it has been designated as a nature reserve. After quarrying was stopped in 1966, the quarry served to maintain the groundwater level in the lime mining area (source Wikipedia).
