The former school building in Altwindeck has been home to many historically significant exhibits since 1974. In addition to finds from the castle Windeck and things from the possession of politically interesting personalities, which report from the eventful history of the region, especially the things are worth seeing, which put the life of the "simple people" in the center.
In the course of time, the museum was extended by three half-timbered buildings and thus to the museum village: Three buildings were removed stone by stone and beam by the members of the Friends of stone and built on the museum grounds carefully and as faithfully as possible: Two older houses from the villages Merten and Gerressen and a goebel mill, so a mill that is powered by human power or animals.
The furnishing of the houses gives the visitors a first-hand impression of the former living conditions in the Siegtal.
