The Elisenthal powder mill is one of the numerous production facilities in the Bergisches Land in which black powder was produced. In 1871 the production facility was founded by the Cologne manufacturer Everhard Schülgen. The factory owner merged with numerous small powder factories as early as 1873. In 1890 the company became part of the United Cologne-Rottweiler Pulverfabriken AG, a powder cartel. Around 30 people were employed in the powder mill.
