Grunbach was first mentioned in a document in 1075 and is probably one of the oldest Waldhufendörfer in Germany. In 1500 Grunbach became a place of pilgrimage (Holy Cross Chapel). In 1700 the name "Grunbach bei den 7 Eichen" was created

The municipality of Engelsbrand consists of the three districts of Engelsbrand, Grunbach and Salmbach and was created by burning the forest at the end of the 11th century. This is probably where the original name “Ingelßbrand” comes from. A beautiful village.
