That he would one day bring the world modern literary forms such as the feature pages, plus the Loreley song and the verse epic “Germany. A winter fairy tale ”, initially seemed unlikely. Heine left today's Görres-Gymnasium in 1814 without a high school diploma, in order to enroll at a business school according to family tradition. Thanks to the support of his uncle Salomon, however, he was later able to pursue his passion for writing. In his native Düsseldorf, not only his birthplace, which today houses the literary bookstore Müller & Böhm, is a reminder of the great poet. The Düsseldorf University also bears his name.

He is regarded as the perfecter and conqueror of German Romanticism and is still considered one of the most important local authors to this day: Heinrich Heine, writer, poet and journalist, was born in 1797 in the back of this building.
