Parish church, dedicated to Saint John the Baptist, set in the middle of a walled cemetery. The typical rural church forms a stylistically heterogeneous construction with a complex building history, with the west tower as the oldest core dating back to around 1300.
The Sint-Jan-de-Doperkerk was built in a curve of the old Opperzelestraat (today's Osselstraat-Kasteelstraat), which started from the Brussels-Merchtem highway and ran through Ossel, over Amelgem to Meise. The construction of the Brusselsesteenweg that crosses Ossel, however, disrupted the local road pattern, physically separating the church from the rectory (1758) located more westwards. The church is surrounded by largely renovated village houses and is connected to the adjacent castle domain on the east side via a lane.

Picturesque church in the middle of the small village centre. Always nice to stay here in the shadow of Sint Jan.
