According to J. Verbesselt, Amelgem is a typical example of a domain that has retained its original unity and structure over the centuries, with the exception of a brief interruption. At the basis of the current hamlet was - still according to the same author - a Gallo-Roman villa, built against the southern flank of the west-southwest - east-north-east oriented loam ridge that forms the watershed between the Zenne basin and the Rupel basin. The presence of a road on the crest of this ridge and about 700 meters from the hamlet reinforces the likelihood of a Gallo-Roman origin, all the more so since this road is roughly on the line from Asse to Elewijt. Verbesselt also refers to the division of the domain into three fields or "campa" of approximately identical surface area, which together formed 148 acres or 12 "mansi".

Hoeve Klein Amelgem is today a medium-sized closed farm, the various parts of which mainly date from the 18th and 19th centuries, with a large longitudinal barn, dated 1776. The farm is located in a preserved agricultural context in the valley and was separated from the Groot Amelgem farm at the end of the 17th century.
Klein Amelgem is a recently renovated medium-sized semi-closed farm, whose white-painted and anchored brick volumes mainly date from the 18th and 19th centuries. Largely grassy and cobbled courtyard, formerly dung heap. To the north is the farmhouse, followed by a service wing to the east, the stable wings to the east and south of the yard, the barn to the west. The yard is accessed through an iron gate between brick piers in the northeast corner.

Kleinhof van Amelgem, mainly known as Klein Hoeve Amelgem, once formed one farm complex together with the higher farmstead Groot - Amelgem until the 17th century.
The funny thing about this farm is that it is named 'Kleinhof or Kleinhoeve', but in terms of surface area, this farm is twice as large as the Groothof.
In the past, these two farms all belonged to the abbey domain of the Witheren van Grimbergen, also known as the Norbertines.
According to reliable sources, the original homestead dates from 350 AD.
The building has stood the test of time well.
