Due to the valley location - albeit elevated - several mountain streams flow together in Loffenau and unite in the Laufbach. The water is collected in the Sägmühlteich and released again in a controlled manner via the Laufbach Falls. In earlier times, several mills were operated in Loffenau because of the abundance of water.

Laufbach and Igelbach are the main streams that flow through the village. The emergence of the Laufbach waterfalls, however, is due to the abundance of water that nature has bestowed on Loffenau; visible through many streams and even more small "waters".
