This rural chapel is dedicated to the Mother of Sorrows. In its present form it dates from the 17th century – although its origins are much earlier. On the front facade, above the old sacrificial block, is a remarkable stone with a Gothic inscription. The circumnavigation on the outside represents the seven sorrows of Mary. Inside you can see the simple baroque altar with the torture instruments of the passion of our Lord. Until 1831, the chapel was privately owned by the owners of the neighboring castle, the Laarhof or the former Hagelsteen.

Next to the Laarkapel you will find the statue “Brigand” of Roger Pintens Jr, a Schelse artist. This statue was placed on the occasion of the commemoration of 200 years of the Boer War.
